How to Throw an Unforgettable Safari Themed Party for Your Toddler

For Theo's first birthday we knew a Safari theme was the way to go. A tribute to the great Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, a fearless adventurer who also preserved our great national parks. A safari party was also something for all ages to enjoy. (+ we are saving a few gems for when he's old enough to appreciate, stay tuned for Teddy Bear Picnic and Theodorus Rex)

With creative yet simple decor, engaging activities, and themed snacks, you'll be able to create a truly memorable experience for both the kids and adults attending. Here's how we did DIY'd it on a budget:

Setting the Scene:

To create an immersive safari experience, start by transforming your party venue into a real wildlife sanctuary with a few different set ups. We set up a central picnic area for all ages filled with plush jungle animals, faux greenery, and safari-themed props. A tablecloth imitating the lush green foliage of the jungle, coupled with animal-print disposable plates and cups, will further add to the ambiance.

Details like this "Adopt Me" station ehanced the space and also doubled as party favors for the little ones.

Designate an Adult Area:

While the focus of the party is on the little adventurers, it's equally important to ensure that adults have a space to relax and socialize. This will create a welcoming atmosphere where adults can enjoy conversation and keep an eye on the little explorers. We took our existing cooler and tapped on a custom "Watering Hole" sign to direct grown ups to the very important bar.

Captivating Decorations:

Add a pop of creativity to your safari scene with engaging and visually appealing decorations. Hang inflatable animals from trees or place them strategically around the party area for an element of surprise. Use colorful balloons decorated with animal prints, and tie them to chairs, fence posts, or around the perimeter to add a playful touch. You can also arrange a DIY photo booth area with safari-themed props such as binoculars, hats, animal masks, and pith helmets.

Fun and Games:

To keep the party buzzing plan activities that are both engaging and safari-themed. Setup stations where little ones can create their own animal masks using craft supplies like paper plates, crayons, and feathers. You can also organize a "safari hunt" where kids can search for hidden plastic animals in a designated outdoor area. The child who finds the most animals can be awarded a special

Delicious Safari Treats:

No party is complete without a scrumptious spread, and a safari-themed party is no exception. Design a menu that includes tasty treats with creative safari names, like pretzel stick "Twigs", goldfish "Trout", chocolate covered oreo "Footprints", and Ferrero Rocher "Bear Poop". Don't forget a characturerie board for the grown ups. If you are hosting at lunch time, you should probably serve a meal too. We bbq'd burgers and hot dogs for an easy meal that everybody loves.

A safari-themed birthday party is an exciting way to spark your toddler's imagination and create lasting memories for both kids and adults. By incorporating captivating decor, engaging activities, and delicious treats, you can transform your party venue into a thrilling wildlife adventure. Just remember, when it comes to planning a safari party, while the sky's the limit your budget doesn't have to be! A little creativity and hands on deck and you can put together something that looks straight out of a magazine. No party planner required. Involve your toddler in the set up (and clean up) of the party. It's a great way to give them independence and teach them how to be a generous host.
